Ballina’s Flat Rock is justly famous for its beach and its surfing break. What you mightn’t be aware of is its significance as a heritage site
So as part of Ballina Heritage Week, Ballina Coastcare volunteers have organised an easy 350-metre stroll over the Shirley White Bushland Trail along the high dunes. In the process you’ll learn all about Flat Rock’s indigenous heritage, its sand mining history, shorebird conservation, and bush restoration.
Enjoy fabulous views from vantage points between Tent Park and Flat Rock surfing beach.
There will also be shorebird, sand mining and other displays to view over morning tea at the surfing beach carpark. The return walk to Tent Park will arrive back at about 10.30.
No booking is necessary; simply go to the Flat Rock Tent Park viewing platform at 9am and look for the Coastcare banner and shade tent. All ages are welcome for this free walk. It’s recommended you wear sturdy shoes and bring a hat.
