Pennants News: May 12 – Despite the rain  all divisions completed games. Division 1 defeated Condong 5 – 1. Division 2 went down to Pottsville 1 – 5. Division 4 defeated Condong 6 – 0. Division 5 defeated Brunswick Heads 5 – 1, Division 6 had a 1 – 5 loss to Condong. Division 7 lost 1 – 5 against Cabarita. Next Saturday 18th May will see the washed out Round 2 being played and four divisions, 1, 2, 5 and 6, will play at home. Division 1 play Ocean Shores, Division 2 plays Condong, Division 5 plays Condong and Division 6 plays Cabarita. Division 4 plays Cudgen at Cudgen and Division 7 plays Cabarita at Cabarita. With one round to play all divisions have a chance of winning. Division 1 on 21 points has a 3.5 point lead. Division 2 on 17.5 points is only 4.5 points behind leaders Condong whom they play on Saturday. Division 4 on 23 points has a 7.5 lead but Cabarita and Condong have two games to play. Division 5 is on 15 points but are only one point arrears of leaders Condong and Pottsville. Division 6 has slipped to third but is only one point behind leaders Cudgen. Division 7 has 20.5 points and leads their division by 1.5 points. Good luck to all bowlers in what is obviously a huge round for all divisions.

Saturday 18th May saw the end of the sectional rounds. Division 1 scored a 5 – 1 win over Ocean Shores to finish in first place with 25 points. A 5 – 1 win by Division 2 over Condong wasn’t quite enough as they finished third only 0.5 points behind Condong and Pottsville. Division 4 had a 5 – 1 win over Cudgen to finish in first place on 28 points. Division 5 went down 1 – 5 against Condong to finish in 4th place. Division 6 had a 4 – 2 win over Cabarita but finished 0.5 points short of first placed Condong. Division 7 with a 5 – 1 win over Cabarita finished in first place on 25.5 points. Division 4 will now play off against Ocean Shores, the winners of the southern region, on Saturday 25th May. Congratulations to all our pennants’ players on a wonderful effort through the season.

A note from the editorial team

Some of The Echo’s editorial team: journalists Paul Bibby and Aslan Shand, editor Hans Lovejoy, photographer Jeff Dawson and Mandy Nolan

The Echo has never underestimated the intelligence and passion of its readers. In a world of corporate banality and predictability, The Echo has worked hard for more than 30 years to help keep Byron and the north coast unique with quality local journalism and creative ideas. We think this area needs more voices, reasoned analysis and ideas than just those provided by News Corp, lifestyle mags, Facebook groups and corporate newsletters.

The Echo is one hundred per cent locally owned and one hundred per cent independent. As you have probably gathered from what is happening in the media industry, it is not cheap to produce a weekly newspaper and a daily online news service of any quality.

We have always relied entirely on advertising to fund our operations, but often loyal readers who value our local, independent journalism have asked how they could help ensure our survival.

Any support you can provide to The Echo will make an enormous difference. You can make a one-off contribution or a monthly one. With your help, we can continue to support a better informed local community and a healthier democracy for another 30 years.”

Echonetdaily is made possible by the support of all of our advertisers.
