Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.
Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.

Oh Mandy, that was absolutely brilliant. Abbott supporters have been exposed for what they are. In your list of things they hate you could add Community service workers, the majority of which are women, because yes, the $21.00 an hour we earn is ‘what we deserve’, Climate change scientists, greenies, refugees, people who ride motorbikes, doctors who speak out out about alcohol related violence and its consequences (because the government are too gutless to deal with the liquor industry). Love your work Mandy.
I must have missed that story. But it’s funny, because it’s usually the left wingers who easily resort to the ad hominems and pejorative comments. Just look at the Guardian readers’ comments forum!
Jon, I wonder if you’ve ever looked at the blogs of Bolt, or Akerman, or the Catatonics (might have that wrong, but never mind). Please don’t, unless you want to see venomous idiocy displayed in abundance.
I don’t think it is fair to compare being disabled or black with being fat. People have no choice when it comes to disabilities or the colour of their skin whereas they do (in the vast majority) have when it comes to weight. I’m not defending fat shaming here just wanting to make the distinction between the three things.
It’s what goes on in people’s heads that matters. I suppose it would be out of the question to call Abbott a fat head? Kidding aside, the use of the word ‘fat’ is just one of the puny poison darts in the arsenal of the lazy and unimaginative (probably on both the Right and the Left) to ridicule opinions they are so lacking in education to comprehend.
For FAT read; yes Mandy you are completely right but I disagree with you because I am also a blinkered misogynist. I have no rational comment to make so I will hurl the only insult my intellect can come up with. Every insulting reply is confirmation you are on it. Don’t ever stop, we love you.
I am opinionated a fat and that never stopped me. I only care about what people think of me if I like and respect them. I would never like or respect anyone who voted for the Coalition so that sorts that out. You know you are onto something when people start getting personal. The truth hurts! Anyway you are not even fat you are gorgeous!
Brilliant! Love your feisty ways and your big heart. You are gorgeous!!!
