A 28-year-old man has faced Mullumbimby Local Court charged with firearm offences, after allegedly being found in possession of a gun and ammunition at Byron Bay on Wednesday.
About 11:10pm Wednesday night (February 12), police received reports from concerned members of the public that a man walking around Apex Park brandishing a gun.
Police obtained a description of the man from witnesses at the scene and conducted searches of the park, the CBD and surrounding areas.
About 11:20pm, they stopped and spoke to a man in Ewingsdale Road.
On searching his backpack police allegedly found a pistol in and several rounds of ammunition.
The 28-year-old man was arrested and taken to Byron Bay Police Station where he was charged with possessing an unregistered firearm, possessing ammunition, not keeping a firearm safely, possessing unauthorised pistol and goods in custody.
