WED. 18th:   The mixed bowlers enjoyed 2 games during the afternoon with winners decided on Ends.   Close results but the victors were  T. Warr, D. Gardiner, G. Johnston followed by M. Sparke, M. Bertoli, M. James.    M. Franks, W. Sprengel, J. O’Connor tied on ends with K. Gallard, N. Gartner, B. Sprengel.

FRI. 20th: District Gala Day saw 20 teams compete at our Club;  congratulations to the winners and to all who made the day such a success.

Tweed Byron District Bowling Association

Women

June 17/18:  Region One Pennant Play-Offs were conducted at Grafton W.B.C. with Cudgen Leagues  Gr. 2, Condong Gr. 3 and Kingscliff Gr. 4. representing the Tweed Byron District.  Not being familiar with the artificial turf, the ladies were not deterred and battled on  valiantly giving their best in the trying conditions.  Whilst the girls were unable to collect top honours, they are to be congratulated on their fine effort and great bowling. Congrats to Nambucca Heads Gr. 2, Coffs Harbour Gr. 3 and Ballina  Gr. 4, the winners of this competition.  Our best wishes go to these women when they head off to State Play-offs at Port Stephens in August.

June 20:  District Gala Day at Ocean Shores was a grand affair.  Both greens were filled to capacity for a super fun day loaded with friendship and laughter   Winners on the day were Julie Kent (s), Kate Potter, Lyn Ross and Sue Goode, with Aileen McNamara, Eileen Taylor, Bev Lane and Rita Butler collecting the runners-up money. Random rink prizes were won by Thelma Warr, Kay Soccio, Jean Kidman, Annie Revie, Lorna Arnott, Judy Williams, Jenny Glasby and Lyn McGowran.   Many thanks to the clubs that provided raffles for the day.

District President Betty Croft would like to thank Ocean Shores B.C., our hosts for this event who, with wonderful hospitality and friendship, made a super day for all in attendance.

June 21

Teven Golf Club Men’s Division held a 9 holes modified Stableford competition on Saturday morning 21 June with a 6.30am shotgun start.   This Captain’s Day competition was played using a modified stableford points system that rewarded good play and punished poor play.  The results were:  Winner: Geoff Colnan (26 pts).  Runner up: Ian McDuff (25 pts).  Ball run down:  Rob Tillman (24 pts), Anthony Cattle (24 pts), John Mathias (22 pts), Greg Fowler (21 pts),  Steve Blackmore (20 pts).  NTPs:  1st (2nd shot):  Anthony Cattle;  4th ( 2nd shot):  Rob Tillman;  8th:  Garry Bourke.  Putting:  John Mathias (10 putts).  Other special prizes:  2nd (Straightest drive):  Steve Blackmore;  3rd (Chip over the bank and NTP):  Garry Bourke;  5th (Chip over bunker and NTP):  Jacques Briand;  6th (Longest drive):  Garry Bourke;  7th (Long putt):  Greg Unwin:  8th (Chip from rough and NTP):  Greg Fowler.  Many thanks – to Steve Blackmore for arranging and cooking a BBQ breakfast after the game.
