The heart of Bangalow will come alive with the sounds of music today through till Sunday as the annual Bangalow Music Festival moves into full swing.

Now a popular tradition for locals in the historic village and a major tourist drawcard, the festival at the A & I Hall in Station Street showcases acclaimed international soloists and up and coming Australian chamber music ensembles.

This year, performers from the USA, Singapore, Germany, Israel, and Australia will join the Southern Cross Soloists in a weekend of performances, spanning jazz, classical and contemporary chamber music.

The festival, presented by the Southern Cross Soloists, features nine concerts over the three days.

Peter Mortimore, president of Bangalow’s chamber of commerce which sponsors the event, says the festival ‘is the brightest colour woven into the rich tapestry of culture in our beautiful village of Bangalow attracting artists from around the globe and the townsfolk of Bangalow welcome them all’.

Festival logistics co-ordinator Margaret Curtis says she expects this year’s festival, strongly supported by the locals who added to the atmosphere, to surpass all expectations.
