On a wet Oakes Oval pitch last Thursday night, Suffolk Park Men’s fifth division battled a determined Dunoon but showed their class as they eventually came out winners 4–1.
Following this last Saturday saw Suffolk Park’s first division team come up against Italo Stars in the grand final. Italo had been on top of the table all season but had always had tight struggles against Suffolk Park with the teams having two draws and a 2–1 win to Italo during the season.
Suffolk’s multinational team with South American flair were on their game but weren’t able to put away their chances in regular time as the match finished at 0–0 and went into extra time and then on into a penalty shootout. Suffolk Park went on to claim victory winning the shootout 5–3.
Suffolk Park FC is Football Far North Coast’s newest club, entering the competition in 2012. It was started to give the community of Suffolk Park its own sporting identity. This year the club had three junior miniroo teams and three senior teams.
Despite its being a small club, all senior teams made the grand final in 2015, with both men’s teams going on to win.
While the club has had an outstanding season on the field, it is the real sense of camaraderie between the players and supporters that has this little club thriving. The club would like to thank their generous sponsors Baz n Shaz Fruit and Veg Store, Tim Tetley Solicitors and Spar Suffolk Park. Without your generosity we wouldn’t be here.
