Edward ‘Ned’ Saffin has been granted bail in relation to charges that he sexually assaulted a man at gunpoint in Bangalow on 4 July.

The 31-year-old, who is the son of former Page MP Janelle Saffin, is facing 18 charges after he allegedly raped a 19-year-old man and threatened him with a firearm.

Saffin is also accused of having marijuana the day after the alleged attack, according to APN media.

NSW Supreme Court Justice Michael Adams said Saffin may be released on bail but not until after December 3.

Justice Adams said Saffin must stay at a nominated address and not enter Lismore, Byron Bay or Murwillumbah unless directed to appear in court.

He is barred from entering licensed premises, and must surrender his passport prior to his release.

Justice Adams said bail would be revoked and a $250,000 bond would be forfeited if he breached any of the bail conditions.

The date of his next hearing will be determined by the court next Tuesday.
