The federal government’s ESCAS regulations supposedly to protect export animals are not working and atrocities such as the recent Vietnam savage cruelty continue to happen, despite countless ‘investigations’. There are just too many overseas abattoirs which practise vile inhumanity towards animals to be monitored and it’s usually Animals Australia which does the investigation, drawing these practices to our attention.
Meanwhile, this savage trade goes on and animals suffer horrendously, including in the transport of Australian animals where thousands die on every lengthy voyage and where numerous ‘investigations’ by the federal government take place with shipping companies without any alleviation of the cruelty.
Not good enough, Barnaby Joyce, and you, the federal coalition and the Labor opposition need to show some decency and humanity and cease this incredibly cruel trade.
New Zealand stopped its export trade in sheep and it hasn’t gone broke. Neither will Australia with the superior resources we have. Chilled meat is the way to go with more abattoirs and more jobs here in Australia.
