Police have arrested a man they say is responsible for stealing charity box containing money destined for the local community service organisation the Uncle Project from a Suffolk Park Service Station.
About 10pm on Saturday May 21, a man entered the service station shop and stole a number of items by hiding them in his backpack and clothing.
Staff discovered the charity box missing some time later, and police were contacted.
Police launched an investigation, and arrested a 33-year-old Byron Bay on Friday, May 27.
He was charged with the stealing offences, and will appear at Byron Bay Local Court on Thursday 23 June.
Police will be seeking compensation from the man on behalf of the business and community organisation.
The Uncle Project provides male mentors for boys without active fathers. By running regular activities for the boys, fundraising and adventure activities, the project reduces the isolation of mothers and boys.
