The controversial National Broadband Network (NBN) is still rolling out, and Tweed Council has been advised by NBN Co that connection in rural areas of the Tweed is nearly complete.
After about five years of planning and building, the NBN fixed wireless in the Tweed is nearing completion.
Most of the Tweed’s rural areas now have access to the NBN through either fixed wireless or satellite. This technology covers most of rural areas and in most cases is ready for customers to be connected via their preferred provider.
Meanwhile, the first NBN fixed line rollout for the Tweed is due commence within the next month, with other Tweed urban areas to soon follow.
‘I’m excited that the Tweed is finally getting a decent level of broadband connectivity and speed to most of the rural areas,’ says Council’s General Manager, Troy Green.
‘It’s great that some of the more remote rural areas such as Kunghur and Chillingham, will now have the ability to achieve some of the fastest internet speeds in the region.
‘One of the actions of Council’s Economic Development Strategy is to promote opportunities to attract digital-related businesses, so this is great news for businesses who are looking to set up in the Tweed, as well as new residents.
‘It’s also heartening that the fixed line roll out is about to commence in the more built-up areas.’
The more isolated areas of the Tweed now also have access to the NBN through the new NBN satellite – Skymuster. Sky Muster is now available to order, if you are located outside of either the future fixed line footprint or the fixed wireless footprint.
NBN advise that customers who consider that they may be eligible for either Skymuster or NBN fixed wireless should visit the NBN rollout maps www.nbnco.com.au
You can also call NBN on 1800 687 626 or email [email protected] for more information. For a comprehensive overview of the NBN rollout for all areas of the Tweed visit www.finder.com.au/nbn-tracker.
