Byron Police are still to formally identify a male person found dead in bushland near Tallow Beach on Wednesday.
Inspector Greg Jago said police did not believe there were suspicious circumstances to the death but because of the length of time the body had laid undiscovered, no formal identification had been possible.
‘It was a male in his 40s and we believe we know who it is but we need to formally identity him using other means,’ Inspector Jago said.
‘We estimate the person had been dead for about two weeks.’
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
The body was discovered about 2pm on Wednesday.
