CocoWant to do something creative with the kids this school break? Well Coco from the Curly Cousins has just the thing – her week-long drama and play workshop, suitable for kids from five to eight, but of course flexible depending on little people’s maturity and social skills!

What has Coco got planned for her workshop?

Coco is so excited to be holding her workshop and can’t wait to share her love of acting and play with all her new playmates. There will be lots of fun drama games, creative movement improvisation, role play, clowning etc

What does drama do for kids?

Firstly it’s lots of fun and a fabulous way to build confidence. It also gives children a wonderful opportunity to learn to work as part of a team (often with kids they’d not normally connect with). A great way to make new friends and share part of themselves that may be hidden. Drama sessions can help in vocal development and diction, and creative movement is perfect for their growing bodies.Drama also fuels the imagination and takes them away from the land of screens.

Do you have to be outgoing?

No not at all. Don’t worry if you feel your kids are too shy or quiet. It is often these children that shine in drama. It gives them a safe space to be seen. Coco was very shy herself so she’ll make sure everyone feels supported, comes out in their own time and has fun.

What should kids bring?

A healthy snack and a bottle of water.

What should kids expect from the week-long workshop?

New friendships. More confidence in themselves as people and as performers.
And lots of Fun with a capital F.

Monday–Friday 15 July at the Brunswick Ex-Services sub-branch Hall. 11am–1pm daily. $120.

Youth crime is increasing – what to do?

There is something strange going on with youth crime in rural and regional Australia. Normally, I treat hysterical rising delinquency claims with a pinch of salt – explicable by an increase in police numbers, or a headline-chasing tabloid, or a right-wing politician.
