Lismore mayor Jenny Dowell has branded the vandalism of children’s play equipment in Heritage Park as ‘disgusting’ after equipment was damaged by fire overnight.
‘I’m disgusted! What mean-spirited imbecile would want to destroy children’s play equipment?’ she said in a Facebook post.
The first was lit around slides at the park, causing significant damage to the plastic slide and other play equipment in the vacinity.
A soft-fall area as well as a timber fence, retaining wall and vegetation were also burnt.
Cr Dowell said an estimate of the damage was still being determined.
NSW Fire Brigade attended the fire last night but were back at the site this morning as the fire had re-started.
The area has been taped off by police, who have asked that anyone with information contact them.
