
The Byron Bay Boardriders came in second behind Coffs Harbour at the Australian Boardriders Battle Series held at Pippi Beach at Yamba over the weekend.
Clubs in the northern NSW qualifying event included: Angourie, Coffs Harbour, Lennox/Ballina, Cabarita, Byron Bay, Sawtell and Half Tide (Evans Head).
The Coffs Harbour team (5,400 competition points) narrowly got the edge on Byron Bay (5,325 points) to win the day.
The Australian Boardriders Battle Series involve more than 60 of Australia’s best boardriders clubs in eight state qualifying rounds and will culminate in a national final in NSW in February 2017 for 24 clubs.
The top three clubs on the day, including Cabarita Boardriders (4,662 points), qualified for the February contest.
Former Championship Tour surfer and Byron Bay local Danny Wills claimed the Milwaukee Heavy Duty Hack award for a critical layback snap.
