A man will appear in Tweed Heads Local Court today after being extradited from Queensland in connection with alleged firearm offences relating to a raid last week by the Middle Eastern Organised Crime Squad (MEOCS).
About 10am on Friday (4 November 2016), MEOCS detectives conducted the search of a home on Queen Street, Auburn, in relation to a Firearms Prohibition Order (FPO).
One of the occupants of the home, a 34-year-old man, has been the subject of an FPO since February this year.
While conducting the search, its alleged police located a magnum revolver and ammunition in the bedroom of the home.
The items were seized from the property and underwent further forensic examination.
The 34-year-old man was not home at the time of the search, and inquiries later revealed he had travelled to Queensland earlier in the week.
A warrant was subsequently issued for his arrest.
About 7pm on Friday evening, Queensland Police Service Detectives attached to Taskforce Maxima attended a resort complex in Surfers Paradise and arrested the man.
He appeared before Southport Magistrates Court yesterday (Monday November 7), and was extradited to NSW where he was charged with contravening an FPO, not keep firearm safely, possess unregistered firearm, and possess ammunition without holding a licence.
The man has been remanded in custody and is due to face Tweed Heads Local Court today.
