Well-respected Brunswick Heads GP, Dr David Miller, has been honoured for more than 35 years of service to the communities of Brunswick Heads and Mullumbimby.

At the recent 2016 NSW Rural Medical Service Awards, Dr Miller was one of 20 outstanding GPs awarded for more than 700 years of combined service to country NSW communities.

He is a popular choice for Bruns and Mullum locals, having helped deliver many babies over the years at the old Mullum hospital birthing unit.

The awards recognise GPs who have provided long-standing medical service to the people of rural, regional and remote NSW.

Dr Miller practised at the Nana Street clinic in Brunswick Heads for 21 years until his recent retirement from general practice in September this year.

He was presented his award by the NSW Rural Doctors Network (RDN) during their annual Rural GPs Conference dinner held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on Coogee Beach, Sydney on Saturday 26 November.

RDN chief executive Richard Colbran said ‘Dr Miller has made a significant contribution to his rural community by providing high quality continuity of care’.

‘It is rare for rural doctors to be formally recognised for the outstanding contribution they make to their communities and acknowledged for the work they do,’ Mr Colbran said.

‘This award provides a unique opportunity for the people of Brunswick Heads and Mullumbimby to acknowledge the difference that Dr Miller makes to the health and well-being of their communities.

‘On behalf of the NSW Rural Doctors Network, I’d like to wish him all the very best on his retirement and for his future.’

The dinner presentation was attended by more than 200 guests, representing GPs from across rural, regional and remote NSW, the award recipients and their families.
