Wyuna 1 freed from Belongil Beach

The Brunswick Heads Women’s Bowling Club had a successful start to the 2017 Pennants competition with a win over Ocean Shores.

The first-round game was played at home against Ocean Shores on Tuesday March 7.

Ocean Shores took a strong lead but halfway through the game the Brunswick Heads teams fought back with both being able to win their games.

Overall score was Brunswick Heads won 37–29.

Brunswick Heads is competing in Grade 3 of the Tweed Byron District Women’s  Bowling Association (TBDWBA) Pennants Competition along with three other local clubs: Ocean Shores, Cabarita Beach and Kingscliff.

The Brunswick women last won the Grade 3 pennant in 2009 and were runners-up in 2015 and 2016.

In their second game playing away at Kingscliff the team of Sherril Pearce (lead), Kerry Dexter (2nd), Jenny Meinel (3rd) and Darilyn Guest (skip) had a 20–13 win.

But the team of Rosa Kinnear (lead), Bev Gawned (2nd), Jenny Lofts (3rd) and Lorraine ‘Blossom ‘ McCormick (skip) lost convincingly.

The competition continues this week when Brunswick Heads plays round three at home against Cabarita Beach, and round four away at Ocean Shores.
