The massive flood that hit Lismore recently has resulted in very different outcomes for two of the most historic hotels in town.

The Gollan Hotel, where Queen Elizabeth stayed during her Coronation tour in 1954, has announced via Facebook that it will not be reopening in the foreseeable future.

‘We would like to thank all of our loyal patrons that became part of ourGollan family,’ the post said.

‘Special thanks to all the talented local musicians and entertainers that played and performed at the Gollan Hotel.

‘To the sporting clubs and teams that we sponsored, sadly this unforeseen event means we can no longer continue this support, and for that we can only apologise.

‘Thanks to everyone for all the good times had at the Gollan Hotel.’

Across the road, however, the New Tattersalls Hotel is preparing for what will undoubtedly be its biggest gig ever.

A benefits gig being organised by Kelly Ross from Pulpitation Music Promotions has so far lined up a staggering 31 bands to play over two days at the popular hotel.

Long-regarded as Lismore’s home of live music, the Tatts was particularly hard-hit during the recent flooding, with the water rising to 1.8 metres throughout the establishment.

Despite that, with a massive effort from publicans Rod and Kim Bradbury, staff and numerous volunteers, the Tatts was back trading within a short time, and was the first hotel in Lismore to reintroduce a full menu from its kitchen.

Kim Bradbury told Echonetdaily that the response from local bands had been ‘mind-blowing’.

‘The Tatts has always been known as the venue for live music in Lismore and the amount of bands lining up to play this gig is crazy,’ she said.

‘It makes us feel very humble to know we have such support.’

The fundraiser for the Tatts will be held on 3 and 4 June.
