Locals should fill up now and travellers should keep an eye on the best value towns in the region, says the NRMA as the state prepares to go on holidays.
Petrol prices on the north coast have been relatively stable over the last few weeks but there have been some notable discrepancies to the trend.
Grafton, which a lot of travellers treat as pit stop, is the fourth most expensive place to buy fuel in the state ($1.37 for standard unleaded) with Casino ($1.21) the fifth lowest.
In the middle, South Tweed Heads service stations are selling unleaded at $1.29 on average, down almost three cents from last week.
Elsewhere on the north coast, Ballina and Murwillumbah are on level pegging at $1.34 and Lismore on $1.31, all unchanged from last week according to NRMA figures.
NRMA spokesperson Peter Khoury said with such a huge gap between prices from town to town across NSW over the long weekend, motorists should ensure they’re informed or risk being over-charged almost 23 cents a litre before heading away.
‘We’re encouraging motorists taking regional road trips to use the NRMA Fuel App to find the cheapest fuel locally so they can save their money for other holiday expenses,’ Mr Khoury said.
‘Major oil companies have the right to charge what they want and now we have the power to drive straight past them,’ Mr Khoury said.
