A man will face court today after allegedly indecently assaulting a teenage girl in the state’s Northern Rivers region.

About 5pm on Monday 15 May, a 13-year-old girl was walking along Dudley Drive, Goonellabah, when a man allegedly approached the girl and indecently assaulted her.

Police have been told the girl ran away, with the man continuing to follow her, before he indecently assaulted her again.

Officers attached to Richmond Local Area Command were contacted and attended the scene.

A short time later, a 39-year-old man was arrested and taken to Lismore Police Station where he was charged with aggravated indecent assault and offensive conduct.

He was refused bail and is due to appear in Lismore Local Court today, Tuesday 16 May 2017.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.

  1. Absolutely disgusting, what makes sickos think they have a right to live in our glorious city of Lismore?

We’re kind people who help, accept and embrace most people, but all Lismorites draw the line at sexual predators

Absolutely sick, a 13 year old girl should have a right to walk around town whatever time of day she wants and I’m any suburb without risk of danger from evil men
