Buck Dean and the Green Lips at the Hotel Great Northern on Friday

Are My Lips Green?

Buck Dean and The Green Lips. Crazy name, rocking show. They’re the Sunshine Coast born and bred lads ripping out some classic original rock! Emerging in 2015, they found their trademark rock sound and stuck to it. Buck Dean and the Green Lips have gone from strength to strength over the last two years. The band has enjoyed performing multiple events including, Mitchell Creek Rock’n’Blues Fest 2015, 2016, Big Pineapple 2016, 2017, Sea & Sound Festival Mooloolaba 2016 and several smaller but just as much fun events/festivals.

Multiple amazing sell out shows at their favourite local venue the Solbar has seen the band solidify a strong local following. The band has recently completed their third EP with Rock Royalty Jeff Lovejoy and have partnered with Firestarter music Adam Weston from Birds of Tokyo promo Label for its release in early December accompanied by a state by state tour in early 2018.

Buck Dean and The Green Lips play the Hotel Great Northern on Friday at 8.30pm.

Get the big pout and the big hair ready, The Thompson Twins play the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on 2 Dec!
Get the big pout and the big hair ready, The Thompson Twins play the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on 2 Dec!

Twinning at the Brizzie Entertainment Centre

It was the time of big hair with giant fringes that obscured one eye. Some of us didn’t look out of two eyes until the nineties. It was about puffy pants, really puffy pants, and billowing shirts. Kind of like a pirate who went to a slumber party. We all wore eyeliner and looked intensely confident about how bloody flamboyant we were. And that was just the blokes! The Culture Club, headed up by Boy George are making a triumphant return having sold out some of the world’s most iconic venues including Hollywood Bowl in LA and London’s famous Wembley Arena. They hit the stage up in Bris Vegas and are joined by Thompson Twins. Remember them? They are going to be playing live for the first time in 27 years. Thompson Twins had huge hits – songs such as Hold Me Now, Doctor Doctor, You Take Me Up, and Love On Your Side provided the soundtrack for many people’s lives worldwide in the mid-eighties. It’s been 32 years since Thompson Twins have been to Australia and no doubt fans will welcome Tom Bailey back with open arms. They will be joined by the Eurogliders, headed up by one time local, much loved and rock music super star Grace Knight!

Brisbane Entertainment Centre, 2 December! Have a blast from the past!

Eurogliders took the charts by storm in the 1980s. In 1984, Eurogliders released their album This Island, which spawned their No.2 hit single, Heaven (Must Be There). Another Australian top ten album, Absolutely, followed in 1985, which provided three further top ten singles, including We Will Together. Grace and Bernie, along with their superb band, have reunited to once again captivate audiences with their sophisticated and high-energy brand of pop. Eurogliders will play all shows (except Perth). Brisbane Entertainment Centre Culture Club, Thompson Twins, Eurogliders (Brisbane December 2).

Byron Musicians Remember Our Fiona

Byron Bay musos pay tribute to Fiona Porteous at the Rails this Saturday. This is a musical tribute to the No.1 fan of the bands that her Scottish hubby Alan Park played keyboards in. The bands playing on the night are The Feramones (Rails virgins), Pete C & the Soul Shakers (regulars) and EPIC (also Rails virgins) whenever these bands were playing Fiona would be on the dance floor having a ball. All of the bands playing are donating their fees to the Melanoma Research Foundation as a mark of love and respect for Fiona and help to find a cure. The Rails is also contributing with many thanks to Tom Mooney who was also a dear friend of Fiona’s.

Sadly on 17 July 2017 Fiona died from melanoma, so this gig will raise some dollars towards research. Sadly Fiona was diagnosed and gone within two months and her friends and family are still in grief. Fiona’s love of music is reflected in the story of how she met Alan in 1996 when he was musical director for Sir Cliff Richard (for 26 years) and she was Sir Cliff’s (and Olivia Newton-John’s) wardrobe mistress. So, come on down to the Rails and celebrate the music Fiona loved to dance the night away. There will be some very special guests coming along to play on the night but my lips are sealed! From 6pm.
