A 23-year-old man was charged over the alleged assault and robbery of a man who had been walking along the main street of Ballina on Thursday night.
Police say that around 10.30pm, the victim, a 22-year-old man, was walking along River Street when he was allegedly pushed in the chest by a man walking towards him.
The man allegedly grabbed the 22-year-old’s phone and started running down River Street.
The victim chased and caught the man and while trying to get his phone back, was assaulted.
Members of the public intervened and police were called, who arrested the alleged assailant.
He was taken to Ballina police station where he was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and robbery.
He appeared in Ballina Local Court yesterday and refused bail to re-appear in Lismore Local Court on Thursday 19 April.
