Heavy music with a bang!

Heavy music is back at The Northern this week, with a bang! Regular Backroom legends Dead Crow and Mudwagon are joined by Dipodium and Northern Rivers locals Liminal and Puff – the plan is to raise the roof on Thursday at The Northern. This is definitely a night, and a mosh, not to miss. Entry is free!

The HUB is once again getting into gear for schoolies. They need plenty of locals to volunteer to help ensure everyone stays safe on the streets of Byron.

‘We are looking for volunteers of all ages but would like to encourage more young people between 18 and 24 to join us this year, and parent and teen teams, as it is a wonderful way to gain volunteering experience,’ said HUB Coordinator Nicqui Yazdi.

This year the HUB will run for 10 days rather than its previous 18 days.

‘This is due to the introduction of a prep year in Queensland which has resulted in far less graduating year 12s coming from Queensland this year.’

For anyone who volunteers before the end of October there are opportunities to gain certificates in Apply First Aid, Youth Mental Health First Aid and Alcohol & Other Drug Crisis training. The spots will be allocated on a first-in-best-dressed basis so if you want to receive the free training, get your registrations in ASAP said Ms Yazdi.

‘Everyone who has been a part of the HUB since it started back in 2008, has had a great time and really enjoyed helping to make this a safe and happy experience for the young visitors. Young people generally make good decisions, but for the inexperienced Schoolies visitors, it can also be a time where they might get into trouble. The more volunteers we have, the safer these young people will be.’

Contact Ms Yazdi on 0402 013 177 or email: [email protected] to register.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.
