Free shop to move on from Billinudgel

Locals are rallying behind beloved Byron local Krystal Pillwein after she was diagnosed with stage 2 inoperable cervical cancer, launching a fundraising campaign to help ease the financial burden of her treatment.

In response to Tim Harrington’s letter, taking a swipe at Phillip Frazer’s FU article (18 December, 2019). After some deep breathing and lots of chamomile tea, here’s my take on the inaccuracies you expressed.

On matters that have escaped Mr Harrington’s peripheral vision; the reason Mr Frazer was perplexed as to why voters chose Slomo, is simply because he is an educated journo with a professional approach and a capability for deep, analytical, political commentary.

Regarding Hillary Clinton losing the election – she won the popular vote by three million. And Hell the British people were prepared to vote for Boris Johnson for a swift BREXIT outcome.

As for Bill (Shorten) the media indisputably staged an anti-Bill campaign from the word go.

‘It’s not terribly smart to claim the mass media and politicians are biased towards the bosses’ – so says Mr Harrington. To claim that the media is controlled by the far Left; well I do hope I live to be 157 to see that.

The Murdoch press devours most of our media and Fairfax media that he ‘assumes’ is independent, merged with Channel 9 last year. The Fairfax name is soon to be ditched.

In late 2017 the federal government changed long-standing laws to remove restrictions that prevented mass media monopoly ie owning TV, radio and newspapers. The Feds also abolished the ‘reach rule’ which prevented a single TV broadcaster reaching more than 75 per cent of the population. So much for the leftie media having any power.

To claim that our beloved ABC tells people how to think and what to think – man I wish that were true. If it was, then we would have a far more educated and enlightened voting populace. Praise the Goddess for the ABC and The Echo and Echonetdaily I say.

Last, but not least (where’s the chamomile tea trolly?), you expect the ‘lefties’ to solve the burgeoning tourist traffic issues, why not blame them for the black holes in the cosmos? Speaking of black holes in our roads, please grow up, there are many more important issues to concern yourself with. Slow down, drive around them, and as we are in a climate emergency, there won’t be that much rain any more, so there will be fewer potholes. Welcome to the Apocalypse…

Ballina courthouse windows smashed, man charged

Police say a man will face court today, charged after 12 windows were allegedly smashed in Ballina last night.   Police say, 'About 10.35pm (Thursday 9 July 2026), police were called to Martin Street following reports of a man smashing windows'.
