$104 million for the Beach Hotel – not a bad price for a building on top of what would be, but for huge amounts of public money, a rapidly eroding sand dune.
No doubt they pay a motza in rates, but I doubt it would be anything like a fair share of the tens of millions of dollars that we, as ratepayers and taxpayers, have spent, and will spend, on past and future protection works and the studies needed to do them.
Perhaps Council should get a percentage of the sale price every time it changes hands?
