Mandy Nolan’s Soapbox: Beyond Belief

Perhaps we are being run by the lizard-people overlords after all!

Apparently I am dangerous. Uninformed. A Sell Out. And the Editor of the Echo. This was news to me. Some friends pointed me in the direction of the Stop 5G Northern Rivers NSW page, which was almost in meltdown in response to my recent missive satirising the plethora of COVID-19 conspiracy theories – one of which was about 5G. Although it invoked a tirade of hate speech, it was rather flattering for a humble comedian to be bestowed with such power. There I was, trying to lighten the load with laugher, but as it turns out I am brainwashed. I am in the employ of the government. Others touted that I had political sway, and a few more declared me Editor of the Echo.

I would suggest that before anyone calls another person uninformed, they should perhaps do some very basic fact checking, such that can be done by simply picking up the locally distributed newspaper. There’s probably one on your lawn. I am sorry it’s not accessible via a YouTube link (where all good science lives) but must be sourced locally in black and white.

Hans Lovejoy is the Editor of the Echo. I am the entertainment Editor, which I have been for nearly 20 years. So, for that fact to have escaped them, perhaps I am not the only ‘uninformed’ person in the region…

One bloke went a little further than the others – advocating my violent demise. I will not name that person, because the abuse of oneself shouldn’t be cause for uncompassionate treatment of others. Ironically – the Group Rules from the STOP 5G Admins agree. They state ‘Be Kind and Courteous: Let’s treat everyone with respect. Healthy debates are natural, but kindness is required.’ And number 2: ‘No Hate Speech or Bullying… bullying of any kind isn’t allowed.’ Kind of at odds with this statement which [as we went to print] still stands un-moderated: ‘…we can feed her to the dogs with the rest of them.’ That sounds like a threat of violence. Does the STOP 5G page condone threats of violence from men to women? I thought this was all about supporting ‘healthy community’? Or is it just about supporting those who share your belief?

Fervent fundamentalism is underpinned by assertions that somehow these disparate community members are the truly enlightened. They alone have claim to the real truth – as they have access to what they assert is real science – accessed and distributed through a variety of links on the 4G Network.

To be authentically aligned with their values though, shouldn’t they be running this group via pigeons, not the internet?

On this site they talk a lot about the evidence they have – like they are the gatekeepers of the truth. If you find this evidence questionable, unfounded and unscientific, then you are brainwashed by the system. The ‘logic’ they employ underpins a world view of ‘Us v Them’. Their ‘Them’ are the government (all levels, everywhere) who are in cohoots with ‘The Other Unspecified Them’ to kill ‘Us’.

I have never worked out why they want to kill ‘Us’, but apparently the Chinese are in on it. There’s significant anti-Chinese vitriol on this page which should be moderated as ‘racist’ because racism is also something that the page’s admin states they won’t tolerate.

Here’s a fact. It is not possible to have scientific evidence about the relationship between 5G and coronavirus – because there hasn’t been enough time to conduct a proper study, since the disease was only identified less than six months ago. It would only be speculation. It takes a minimum of 12–18 months for research to be validated – it has to pass through an ethics procedure, it then needs to be accepted by a legitimate and recognised publication like The Lancet and then the science needs to be peer reviewed, and then published. This is a robust process to ensure that unfounded theories don’t circulate as fact.

Unfortunately, the evidence that STOP 5G refer to, has only had its ‘research’ peer reviewed through the comments stream on YouTube. We live in an era where we are able to curate and choose ‘evidence’ that supports our belief bias – then we use our shared bias to form a tribe.

I might add that I made no comment in my article on endorsing or not endorsing the implementation of 5G; just that the conspiracy theories are rampant bullshit, and dangerous to public health as those who believe it think social distancing isn’t for disease control – just crowd control. If the Stop 5G lobby want to be taken seriously, they need to distance themselves from outlandish conspiracy. It’s not unreasonable to insist on the investigation of impacts of any technology on human and animal health – it is however entering the realm of a Monty Python farce to suggest it’s all part of Huwaei’s quest for world domination. Although I do like the opening scene theme song – aka Frankie’s hit, ‘I did it Huwaei!’.

The 5G conspiracy theory is straddled by this overarching belief that all governments have conspired to move us into a New World Order. Basically it’s a plot to keep us home so they can get the towers up all over the world, whack the robots on the streets, then immunise us with the new vaccine that has a 5G chip. (You might want to put the bong down now). Have a look at history. Ever since we attempted to dominate nature and embarked on The Silk Road, humans have dealt with pandemics. We moved goods, spices and new ideas; from China, to Central Asia, to Europe and we also carried the Bubonic plague that killed half of all Europeans, in seven years. (Shit! The Chinese again! Conspiring for world domination by manufacturing a disease – in the 1300s! Clever bastards.)

The world has always been adversarial – to conspire in the interests of world domination would suggest a kind of unity that governments, and the rest of us, have never shared. Perhaps we are being run by the lizard-people overlords after all! (I am eager to see the evidence for their existence.) So as we are never going to agree on evidence, let’s try something Aristotelian: logic.

If we accept that 5G is deadly to our immune systems, and we’ll all die, or get cancer or have a major health meltdown – then who benefits from its implementation? If all of us are affected, then who is the beneficiary of this New World Order? Won’t ‘They’ be affected too? Won’t their families also perish?

It’s ludicrous.

This is a time when the world is actually united with a shared objective, to pull their populations through a pandemic, to care for the vulnerable!

So stay inside, but do us another favour, and stay off Facebook as well. And hey, on the upside, if we do get 5G, how much faster will we be able to send conspiracy theories around the planet?

So let’s start first with a 5K network. Kindness V Conspiracy.

Is this satire? That is news to me from where I sit.

  2. Neville Herdegen says:

Mandy Nolan!?! Are you sleeping with Dr Karl? How dare you assail us with logic. Why can’t we be ignorant, stupid, prejudiced youtubers? Nothin much else to do with the pubs shut. Can’t even have a decent ayahuasca session in the yurt in case someone vomits 5G on me.

  3. Ginga says:

    Hey love…
Half way through.. it’s a big one this week..

Just so happens I am working on a theory at present linking food irradiation & digital signal frequency to cell mutation..
    that’s a fun piece of work…

My life is challenging enough in 4G thanks. Everyday.. However, having such an incredible gamut of hardcore environmental allergies, as well as food & chemical allergies kinda’ gives me a bit of extra insight. If I hadn’t got the hang of this by now, quite frankly I would be a floating piece of loving oneness.. melding with my passed parents by now.. that’s how hard to manage this story was when it first started..

I have a handle on it, it costs me a packet because there’s no traditional medicine for it..
except stay off it.. which isn’t practical at all..
not at the moment..besides the sort of stuff traditional medicine looks at with respect for the body wouldn’t work, only to make the person more vulnerable to illness, by shutting down facilitating centres that govern the larger subtle bodies. A bit like the metaphor in the movie the Golden Compass & dust..
We are multi-dimensional after all.. 70% water & effected by wave frequency. So it that’s distorted, it’s going to cause distortion. It’a as simple as it gets.. it’s not rocket science!

Onto the next love potion.. we have talked about this whole violence thing before.
No excuse for violence.. ever! It’s horrible!

Please be respectful to the women in our community. If you don’t like what someone says.. turn it off.. write a letter expressing your dismay.. find a creative, non violent way to express it through art, music or writing for example.. deal with your emotional story in a peaceful, respectful way to others & yourself.

Look loves I have to say, quite frankly Mandy.. & everyone else.. I am so self involved I can’t remember what you wrote.. I love you though..

Thanks for the support everyone.. we don’t want 5G.. We do want Mandy though…

Please don’t do that.. it’s the wrong approach..
Let’s do it the right way hey fellas, please.

    Sorry that happened Mandy.

    Thanks for being here hon.
    We love you..

May more love flow in the hearts of our beautiful community.

    Blessings

    So anyways..

  4. Ginga says:

Interesting thing.. scientists are often not allowed to ask the right questions.. $$$…
I’m not one of them.. my lovely DNA made sure I couldn’t be.. use the inner hippy we say… I can ask the questions I like, with an entire team of ‘Universal Specialists’ that lift the blindfolds of imagination & open the doors when in the right space.. when the questions are asked in the highest good to help resolve problems.. the answers are there.. when they are needed..
this is, in a sense, 10 years work for me..
When I heard Face Book started taking down stuff about 5G & Covid.. my heckles went up..
A week after I had been spoken to as though I was an idiot by politicians.
2 weeks before in the supermarket carpark, my radio somehow switched from CD to radio & Dr Karl was spinning the ‘safe story’ to a bunch of students. I like Dr Karl. I absolutely never listen to the radio.. signal frequency!!! It just happened.. hit a bump or something & bumped the thing putting in a CD. I don’t even know how it works. New drive!

I think Dr Karl great. Makes one of my favourite subjects.. science & the multiverse fun! Geek! Yes & proud of it. I did not like the conversation.. ‘you’re kidding right!)
Me.. Metaphysician.. all matter.. not just the stuff you can see. It’s a much broader interpretation.

Fundamental science finds this challenging. The reality is, to solve & resolve the energy needs of the future for example.. . the two must be in balance.. heart must be open..first..
you can’t have what you won’t accept exists.

So for science to be in truth, those who keep using ‘the rabbit hole’ as an enticement better be ready to balance themselves before they jump in.. they will only ever receive half an answer. Half a reality.. half a truth & half the possibilities & potentials.

Ask the right questions.. for the highest good of the planet. Things will start looking up.

They won’t like what I present.. it is logical! So.. there’s that.
Of course those lovely little snips are not all there is to it.

Again.. balance your cranky fellas. Be nice. Be kind.. be your best selves now, ya’all.!!!

Let them cry in their over processed irradiated breakfast! Oops! Did I just say that…?

    Much love

  5. I’m no U-tuber or face-booker or twitter-tits. What’s
    more, I manage to understand Mandy’s word-play
…. so play it again I say. Shoot! We need to be
united & how. High on a new world order, hey?
Whatever they say is a rumble in the jungle.

  6. Nola Firth says:

Seems there is emerging evidence that the 5g conspiracy theories are being coordinated in a well organised disinformation operation. see : https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-04-09/covid-19-link-to-5g-technology-fueled-by-coordinated-effort

  7. B.McNamara says:

Thank goodness we have Mandy putting things into perspective for us.

  8. David says:

It’s totally OK to use Facebook to distribute the truly enlightened knowledge that we in this area know to be true as long as you are wearing your Mullum market stainless mixing bowl and NOT your collander (which has those sneaky holes in it!.
Facebook is, indeed, an essential tool as it allows for instantaneous peer review (actually by your peers too!).
This makes it possible to bring the scientific process down from 12 to 18 months to a matter of hours. The Commander in Chief prefers Twitter of course, so he can give informed advice on exactly which drugs will stop Covid, God bless him!
Bugger, I think I’ve mixed up too many themes…
My mixing bowl has slipped off aaarrrrghhhh

  9. Jimbo Jones says:

So disappointed that the comments section of this article is not full of angry people imploring us to “Wake up Sheeple!!!!”. Oh well, I guess I’ll have to just binge on the bountiful non sequiturs.

Mandy – you barely went there, and only in jest… yet you are threatened with violence and pilloried.
A sign of the times – the strength of people’s conviction is usually baseless and very very fragile.

So, I offer a guide for all to live by:

The more you know, the less you know you know.
So seek to know as much as you can, and be content that it really never amounts to much at all (certainly not enough to attack others).

  10. Blue says:

    Love it!
Apparently the 5G arsonists in the UK are so dumb they burnt down towers that weren’t even 5G

  11. Robin Harrison says:

The wealthy and influential have always run everything and own the finest democracies, authoritarian regimes, legal systems and mainstream media money can buy. They don’t have to be lizard people just people, wealthy and influential people united only in the desire to remain wealthy and influential. Conspiracy would suggest it’s hidden away but it’s not, it’s hidden in full view.
I think we should take all ideology and belief with a grain of salt, logic and reason demands evidence. Meanwhile keep making us laugh Mandy, thanks for that.
BTW there’s a theory that Chinese started out as English which was then whispered from one to another half way around the world.

  12. Leonie Lane says:

This is a wonderful response – thank you Mandy!

  13. Mark says:

You need evidence of lizard people, have a good look at Peter Dutton.

  14. People do love to hate the Chinese – I even heard one person during a TV broadcast this week, talk about the “Chinese Communist Government” – Now I am pretty sure when people one TV talk about the UK they don’t talk about the “English Tory Government” or Trump, the “American Republican Government” we talk about Boris Johnson and Donald Trump – we pin it on people – it’s very Alan Jones to talk about the ‘communist’ government – another stab at the Chinese (who invented EVERYTHING BAD don’t y’know)…
Not to mention paper-making, printing, gunpowder and the compass as well as alcohol (YAY), tea (Also YAY), the umbrella, iron smelting, porcelain, rockets, the seed drill, row crop farming, the toothbrush and my personal favourite: the kite!

  15. Ginga says:

Nice comment Eve! I love it.

  16. Jen says:

The Corona virus seems to have hit the more affluent first – travellers, cruisers, those living in affluent area’s like Bergamo Italy, even the UK Priminister Boris Johnson & Princes Charles, the US & the Chinese. Makes me wonder who is really is behind all this? Maybe those 5G protesters perhaps?

  17. Liz L says:

Thanks, Nola – fascinating time read the conspiracy theory about the conspiracy theory. Curiouser and curiouser!

  18. Dave says:

Fantastic read Mandy. Made me laugh out loud – but there are some important points made.

Apparently? The 5g conspiracy theories originally came from a Russian TV station that is known for its ‘fake news’. The conspiracy theory about the conspiracy theory is that some more impoverished places (like Russia) will be left in the economic dust if wealthier countries start doing business more efficiently with much faster network speeds. And if they can’t afford to roll it out they don’t want it anywhere – as they will be left watching the download bar. But that’s a theory about a theory. As was pointed out to me by an actual scientist, 5g isn’t much different to 4g which isn’t much different to TV and radio spectrum. It’s the other end of the spectrum that’s the issue. Where microwave, and even sunlight sits. Sunlight is a bigger worry than 5g, and that sinister one has actually been proven to mutate cells and cause cancer.

  19. Theo Engelaer says:

I have not been able to find any convincing argument linking 5g with Covid 19, nor any evidence that Russia has anything to do with the spreading of such ideas. However I take issue with Mandy with her very naive statement: “It takes a minimum of 12–18 months for research to be validated – it has to pass through an ethics procedure, it then needs to be accepted by a legitimate and recognised publication like The Lancet and then the science needs to be peer reviewed, and then published. This is a robust process to ensure that unfounded theories don’t circulate as fact.” Here is what the Editors of Lancet and the New England Journal had to say about the reliability of peer reviewed articles in their own magazines:

The Lancet, Oxford’s most prestigious medical journal, whose editor Dr. Horton recently stated in a matter-of-fact tone that half the world’s scientific literature is fraudulent : Dr. Horton published a statement on April 11, 2015 declaring that a lot of published research is in fact unreliable at best, if not completely false.
“The case against science is straightforward: much of the scientific literature, perhaps half, may simply be untrue. Afflicted by studies with small sample sizes, tiny effects, invalid exploratory analyses, and flagrant conflicts of interest, together with an obsession for pursuing fashionable trends of dubious importance, science has taken a turn towards darkness.” (source) http://www.thelancet.com/pdfs/journals/lancet/PIIS0140-6736%2815%2960696-1.pdf
This is quite disturbing, given the fact that all of these studies (which are industry sponsored) are used to develop drugs/vaccines to supposedly help people, train medical staff, educate medical students and more.
It’s common for many to dismiss a lot of great work by experts and researchers at various institutions around the globe which isn’t “peer-reviewed” and doesn’t appear in a “credible” medical journal, but as we can see, “peer-reviewed” doesn’t really mean much anymore. “Credible” medical journals continue to lose their tenability in the eyes of experts and employees of the journals themselves, like Dr. Horton.
He also went on to call himself out in a sense, stating that journal editors aid and abet the worst behaviours, that the amount of bad research is alarming, that data is sculpted to fit a preferred theory. He goes on to observe that important confirmations are often rejected and little is done to correct bad practices. What’s worse, much of what goes on could even be considered borderline misconduct.
Dr. Marcia Angell, a physician and longtime Editor in Chief of the New England Medical Journal (NEMJ), which is considered to another one of the most prestigious peer-reviewed medical journals in the world, makes her view of the subject quite plain:
“It is simply no longer possible to believe much of the clinical research that is published, or to rely on the judgment of trusted physicians or authoritative medical guidelines. I take no pleasure in this conclusion, which I reached slowly and reluctantly over my two decades as an editor of the New England Journal of Medicine.”
    Source: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2964337/

  20. Wanda says:

Theo- I believe not all sciences have such poor intellectual standards as clinical medical research, although I have observed some types of science are more rigorous than others. When someone specializes in a field sometimes founding assumptions which can underpin accepted practise can go unrecognised and unchallenged…yes, even in science.
