I am pleased that I don’t have to depend upon Dr Julia Lowe (29 September). Current figures of 24 September 2021, from the Government of Canada, having in excess of 26.5 million people FULLY vaccinated, reported the following vaccine effectiveness statistics, as of two weeks after the second dose.

Moderna 94.1 per cent effective; Pfizer 95 per cent effective; AZ 62 per cent effective.

AZ is low grade ‘cattle fodder’, so far as the history is concerned, but is better than none at all.

Ed note: one of the reasons for confusion about ‘effectiveness’ is that a vaccine can be very effective in reducing ‘serious injury’ or ‘hospitalisation’ even though it less effective than another vaccine against ‘infection’.
