Ballina election candidates

Latest News

Cadwallader, Lyon and Krieg most likely new Far North Coast mayors

With most of the votes cast, and counting over until tomorrow, the New South Wales Electoral Commission stats would suggest that there are three clear winners of the mayoral contests in Ballina, Byron and Lismore Shires.

The list of Ballina Council candidates should give you a good laugh. I mean, how many National Party backed candidates can hide behind the ‘genuine Independent’ banner?

We have two former National Party preselection candidates, one former Howard Government spin doctor, a couple of current card carrying members, and you’d find nearly all of them handed out for the Nationals at the last election.

The fact the Nationals choose not to stand an endorsed candidate in Council elections doesn’t mean they aren’t actively backing their friends.

This election has a serious consequence. Do we really want to end up like that other Nationals paradise, the Gold Coast?

If you think the pace of development is over-the-top now, just wait until this mob take over and watch the developers really let rip.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.

  1. Phil, if it wasn’t so serious it would be hilarious, the Sharon Cadwallader so-called “independent” team is anything but independent, it seems to be far too well resourced. One “team member” who stood for National Party preselection for Lismore and failed, doesn’t appear to even live in Ballina. Sharon Cadwallader has never been independent and has been after the Mayoral job for years. It seems the retirement of David Wright has given her the opportunity to try and seize control of the whole Ballina council for the National Party and the big developers. It will be a disaster for Ballina.

  2. I thought that the developers has already been let rip in Ballina. They eyesore housing estates at Skennars Head and the one in North Creek road for instance. Hig rise units along the Richmond in Ballina. All under Green Mayor Wright. And a Greens State local representative.
    Could it get worse.?
No way i am voting for a green or Labor stooge.

  3. Now that is positive thinking “Hermit” if ever I’ve heard it; you deride “Green” Mayor David Wright, who has never been Green in his life, and Greens MP. Tamara Smith who doesn’t have any say regarding development in Ballina LGA. for allowing too much development, and threaten not to vote for the Greens or Labor. Now that only leaves “independent” Nationals, Cadwallader and Co. to vote for, if you think these Conservatives are going to be anti-development, you are going to be seriously disappointed; people kike you should be banned from voting for being too gullible.
