I am overwhelmed with gratitude towards all the people who helped me when my house was affected by the flood. My friends know who they are and what they have done.
I was as prepared as anyone of elderly years could be. However, not quite prepared enough to keep out these flood waters, or for the lack of phone and internet connection.
Fiona, my generous neighbour, who had been affected badly, worked tirelessly to clean the mud from the garage and move out ruined items.
Those people at the Civic Hall coordinated help so efficiently and thoughtfully. They sent generous volunteer people to do the most urgent things: a family from nearby and three young men, a student from Dunoon and a family from the Netherlands on holidays in Byron Bay.
I appreciate all the help I have received. There were friends, the coordinators and organisers at the Civic Hall, the volunteers and also the ABC local radio that is always there for us in emergencies.
Without these generous-hearted people, where would we all be now?
