So now we know where we stand, when the chips are down the only thing we can rely on is our community. We cannot rely on the government, the internet or the mobile phone network. As monolithic as these entities seemed, they failed. Whereas our community has been magnificent.
Our local response was rapid and effective. The clear message from this is for our community to remain united long after this disaster has passed. There is power and purpose in action and it must begin here in the hearts of all of our people. We must determine our own future. The work goes on, each of us finding where we can help most effectively. For me, it is delivering supplies with my boat along the river from Coraki.
To all the wonderful people working so hard in this really challenging time – thank you – you are the heroes who, with your love and support and tenacity, have shown that nothing is stronger than a caring community
