Playground is a well-established event that will go off at Coorabell Hall on Saturday. For over two years, three long-term local DJ’s – Pob, Curly Si and Halo – have been curating this rhythmic happening. The Annual Murwillumbah Art Trail this weekend the 28t–29 May. Photo supplied

This weekend they are predicting not a lot of rain and even a possibility of sunshine with only a bit of cloud, so there hasn’t been a better weekend to get out of the house, enjoy the potential of sunshine and take in a little art and culture on the Northern Rivers.

The Murwillumbah Arts Trail (MAT) is on over this Saturday and Sunday and brings together artists and makers, the crafters, musicians, poets, storytellers and all the other creative people in the area to show off their skills and creativity.

There are a total of 28 studios, galleries and bespoke locations on the trail that you can visit. Enjoy a drive through the picturesque Tweed region – from coast to river and hinterland, discovering back roads and hidden treasures in this wonderful corner of Northern NSW.

2022 MAT map

In the Murwillumbah CBD, at the centre of the trail, there will be over 70 artists exhibiting, live music, street art and more. So if you have a little cabin fever after all this endless rain, now is the time to get out and enjoy all teh amazing creativity this is on offer this weekend.

Printed maps are available throughout town at the cafe’s, M|Arts Precinct’ and studio locations or online.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.

  1. Ok, yes ok, I said Ok, so you have had a brush-off and you can’t paint, mate. You look in the mirror and you are no oil painting and your hair needs a brushing and you have aged in your rushing as you stare. The colour is all wishy-washy with water from the floods and your eyes are weary from the gloom of your putrid room.
Then get up and get off you bloody tail and let fly and sail down the road and give you heart a flutter and drive the arts trail with your heart while you mutter and take a bite into a better tasting art this weekend.
Now that the clouds are clearing and up there is that clearing by the roadside is a stall so don’t let your motor stall but stop and buy some art on the Murwillumbah Arts Trail this weekend. Buy some art this weekend.

Youth crime is increasing – what to do?

There is something strange going on with youth crime in rural and regional Australia. Normally, I treat hysterical rising delinquency claims with a pinch of salt – explicable by an increase in police numbers, or a headline-chasing tabloid, or a right-wing politician.
