ROR (Reclaim Our Recovery) gathering last week. Photo supplied

ROR (Reclaim Our Recovery) is bringing together swathes of the community together from Woodburn and Coraki, the Channon, Rock Valley, as well as East, South and North Lismore to look at ways to move forward as a community. They are getting together for their weekly meeting tonight but the venue has changed to The Living Lab at 11 Woodlark Street, Lismore at 5.30pm.

‘We are hoping this is our “where next” from our gathering from last week,’ said one of the organisers Miriam Torzillo.

‘We are hoping to bring together the community to look at how we are going forward and how we can collaborate to build a basis for a strong position to push for a  just recovery.’

ROR highlighted that now is the time to keep the pressure on so that there is the impetus for things to improve

‘There are a lot of different ideas and strategies emerging and we at ROR encourage everyone to do whatever it is that is calling to you most strongly. That can include just resting if that’s what you most need! But if there’s energy for pushing on and through, please consider joining us,’ they said in the press release.

‘We’ve been failed’

Empowerment and commitment are key elements to tonight’s meeting so that people can take a specific action towards practical ends.

‘We recognise this is a significant moment as we all absorb how badly we’ve been failed, and how vital, and possible, it is for the actual grassroots community to have a real say on how we move forward from here. We sure couldn’t mess it up any worse than they have!

‘We have some strong ideas of where-to-next to fulfill our aim of RECLAIMING OUR RECOVERY – so that it is socially and environmentally just (and ours!) and we’d love to share them with you, and explore your ideas too.’

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.
