Big Scrub Rainforest celebrations will take place between 23-26 November to celebrate 25 years of the Big Scrub Rainforest Day and 30 years since the formation of the Big Scrub Rainforest Conservancy.

‘This year is a special year marking a quarter of a century of bringing the community together to celebrate the work done to save the Big Scrub and its magnificent biodiversity,’ said Big Scrub Rainforest Conservancy’s President, Dr Tony Parkes.

‘For this milestone event, we’re celebrating the science behind saving threatened species, investigating the conservation dilemma of planting eucalypts in the Big Scrub footprint, and engaging the next generation with a huge multischool community planting.

‘We have over 15 events at ten different Big Scrub locations to engage the community in fun and meaningful connection with the rainforest.’

Events also include Science in the Pub at the Eltham Hotel, seed propagation workshops and guided walks in Lismore Botanic Gardens, Bodhi Tree Forest Monastery, Dorrobbee Grass Reserve, Booyong Nature Reserve, Victoria Park Nature Reserve, Bangalow Parklands and Cape Byron Distillery.

Registrations are essential to attend and, with limited numbers for many of the events, organisers recommend registering early through www.bigscrubrainforest.org.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.

  1. Well given thee is only about one percent of big scrub left after the cedar getters decimated it it’s hard to celebrate anything other than we haven’t lost the one percent. Obviously we need millions of red cedar and other rainforest trees planted to at least get big scrub. Back to at least 50 percent but with housing and continued logging I doubt this will ever happen red cedar regulates the temperature and stops severe weather events and why cedar is used in bathrooms etc as it absorbed moisture then let’s it out again when it’s dry
