Organised religion is a fascinating thing – it enables one side to shout ‘God is Great’ while shooting up villages and playgrounds, while the other side sends rockets into refugee camps and hospitals, and its ultra-orthodox devotees are permitted to abstain from military service as they have to stay home to study their scriptures.
