School’s long-awaited bus stop on the way

For years, catching a bus to or from Goonengerry Public School has been a potentially perilous activity.

A man has been charged with murder after the discovery of a body at Tweed Heads West on Wednesday afternoon.

About 5.50pm yesterday (Wednesday, 7 February, 2024), emergency services were called to a home on Lakes Drive, Tweed Heads West, following a concern for welfare report.

Officers attached to Tweed/Byron Police District arrived to find the body of a woman.

She is yet to be formally identified but is believed to be aged in her 60s.

Police established a crime scene and launched an investigation into the incident.

Following inquiries, police located a 25-year-old man with injuries to his hands on Kennedy Drive, Tweed Heads West.

He was arrested and taken to Tweed Heads Hospital under police guard for treatment.

Upon discharge, he was taken to Tweed Heads Police Station where he was charged with murder.

He was refused bail to appear before Tweed Heads Local Court on Thursday, 8 February.
