Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.

A better idea, make green cars compulsory with red upholstery to match the watermelons in the republic of byron. What next?, ban cars completely?. Please……

  2. While getting rid of dark coloured vehicles would be ideal, compared to the disruptive traffic in towns locals are coping with daily, the colour of a vehicle is irrelevant.

More importantly, ALL gas guzzling, climate destroying monster SUVs and utes-which astonishingly are the biggest sellers in Australia-should be banned-regardless of colour. At the very least councils should be charging extra to park these monsters.

On behalf of residents and ratepayers they’re supposed to be represnting, council should also demand the state government provide the train services we’ve needed and been promised for so many years and stop cost shifting the massive cost of road building and maintenance onto ratepayers. Otherwise building and maintaining more roads to stuff more of these monsters in our towns will cost the earth-literally.

Any councillor or candidate at the September election who thinks it’s possible, or affordable, to provide enough roads and parking in Byron Shire for all these monsters, destroying our once idylic towns in the process, is not worth a single vote.
