A very proactive Minns Labor government will celebrate one year in government with a massive investment of $1.8 billion in renewable energy to get it back on track.

Another great initiative with the establishment of the Energy Security Corporation that will make investments in new storage projects and improve the reliability of our electricity network as we transition to renewables.

The Minns Labor government also committed an additional $800 million to the Transition Acceleration Facility to connect the country’s growing number of Renewable Energy Zones (REZ) to the grid sooner, like the Central West Orana REZ around Dubbo. This REZ Is currently being built in partnership with the Albanese Labor government and will support around 5,000 construction jobs. Another massive NSW/federal investment in renewables is happening in the New England REZ Transmission Project where the first two stages are scheduled for completion in 2033.

These national infrastructure projects are vital to Australia’s future, but sadly the Lib/Nat Coalition are choosing to continue the ‘climate wars’ and are fighting the Labor governments all the way. But wait there’s more, the NSW Office of Energy and Climate Change has funded the development of green hydrogen hubs across the state aiming to have a green hydrogen capacity of 700 MW by 2030.

And how good is this – the Albanese Labor government is committing $1 billion to kickstart a domestic solar panel manufacturing industry on the site of the now decommissioned Liddell coal-fired power station, to underpin the nation’s future as a renewable energy superpower. The transition to renewables is finally underway and only a majority Labor government could achieve this massive nation-building project.

  1. Yeh, good on you Albo, best ever Prime Minister. When can we expect him to allocate $1 billion for a used battery and solar panel recycling plant?. The potential environmental disaster looming over these batteries and panels is quite serious and worrying, how much coal power will the recycle plants use?. “The transition to renewables is finally underway” after a few $billion of taxpayers money donated to the billionaire and the other multi million dollar owner of this plant. Can Albo please explain why he is giving our money away to these leeches with no return to the taxpayers for their money, Albo is always very generous with our money after taking $1500 away from 10 million taxpayers and then offering them a $15 per week tax reduction, looks like Albonomics at work here, don’t look too hard, nothing to see here just trust me… .. .

    • I’m sorry gregrrrrrrrrr 10 million taxpayers lost what! I think you need to look at your poor use of numbers and that only those earning over 200, 000 did get a reduced tax cut and that is nowhere near nearly 40 % of the population. If you looked at the original proposal most taxpayers would have received sweet f.a. But then gregrrrrrrrrrr you seem to live in a very blinkered world where giant moonscapes from open cut coal mining in rural areas. Are acceptable.

    • Well I was expecting the pile on to be from the Greens! I’d temporarily forgotten about the fossil fuel warriors! Sure, recycling the renewables infrastructure will have to be planned for but funny that you’re worried about this “potential environmental disaster” but not the one posed by a warming planet.

No benefit to the taxpayers? Try occasionally reading the AEMO website to learn what the increasing percentages of renewables are doing to the retail electricity price.

I’m a bit mystified by where your 10 million taxpayers comes from. The population of Aus was 26.01 million in ‘22 so 10mil would be about 38%. However only about 5% of taxpayers have incomes above $180,000. Someone who earned more than $253,066 was in the top 1%. That’s taxpayers – which is considerably less than 100% of the population – so the 10 mil looks even shakier. But is that Gregrrrrrrrrrtrrrrrrrrrronomics?

The Grattan Institute reports: “ The upshot is that people with taxable incomes of less than about $146,486, or nearly 90 per cent of all taxfilers, will get either the same or a larger tax cut under the new plan.” Moreover, the more than comfortable not getting as much as originally promised under an outrageously regressive proposal, is not the same as having “$1,500 taken away”. That’s just polispeak. Nice try though!

    • Greegy, your new found deep concern for the environment is so very touching.
The $1billion is to launch solar panel manufacturing in the Hunter region. We do have Tindo Solar making solar panels in Australia and they have expressed interest in scaling up their production.
There are already solar panel recyclers in business so spare the faux horror.

You at a loss to grasp the benefits of making stuff locally when we have the necessary raw materials available ?

  2. No pile on yet Keith, from the professionally outraged! More accustomed to the realm of slogans they must be gobsmacked in the face of some hard cold facts.

  3. Rod and the breath of a lizard, you two lefty’s should get your heads out of the green socialist handbook and read some newspapers. It is common knowledge how the Morrison government introduced a tax rebate of $1.500 to 10.000.000 eligible taxpayers, later to be abolished by the greatest prime minister ever. You lefty’s try to rewrite history you can’t digest, well knock yourselves out, I am here to crush your bullshit.

    • Greegy , you talking about the LMITO ( max amount $1500.00 ) that ended 30 June 2022.
You need to check the facts my man.
It was a temporary measure that your your mob, the Scotty and Joshy show, introduced and put an end date – 30 June 2022- on it as well.
PM Ablo -a big call with that “the greatest prime minister ever” tag – merely said, yeah we’ll copy Scotty and Joshy with the temporary LMITO, ending on 30 June 2022.

Happy to help with FACTS again old son.

  4. If the greatest prime minister ever Albo, had one grain on decency he would have continued on with the rebate, instead he used it to help glean a future surplus out of the disadvantage of millions of low paid Aussies. Well done Albo you hero, a too little too late miniscule tax break will not cut it old sport. The latest polls ensure that. Ever happy to splurge billions on pie in the sky renewables while the population suffer, you will be remembered Albo, at the polling booths. Joachy, guru of all financial in minority and knower of all, my man, old son, helper with facts, no one wants your help.

    • So splurge on a sleight of hand by giving unsustainable rebate whilst giving the very affluent a giant tax cut. The way the government has adjusted these stage 3 tax cuts is much more fiscally responsible. How do we pay for hospitals etc ? The rebate was typical of the lazy economics of the coalition and if you look at two of the poorest electorates in NSW page and New England more people are better off than they were before tax wise especially as the rebate was to cut out in 2022 and they were not going to extend it.

    • Greeggy, we feeling your pain, my man.
You couldn’t get basic FACTS on the LMITO right despite lecturing us about reading newspapers. You must be reading the wrong newspapers old son, best stop reading Murdoch’s propaganda newsrags, it making you look really dense and it does show that you need all the help you can get whether you want it or not.
It rather amusing seeing you, another woke Righty, going into meltdown when getting called to account on FACTS and being crushed by your own bullfaeces. Rofl!

  5. Joachy, guru of all financial in minority and knower of all, Albo in his arrogant and ignorant display of big headedness had the opportunity to continue on with the LMITO rebates to help low income families that relied on it to pay larger bills and to survive, however he pulled the rug out from underneath them and didn’t attempt to replace it with anything substantial to help, all of a sudden large numbers of low income earners owed the tax office. The coalition introduced the rebate in 2018, extended it to 2022, I suspect their end date would have been extended again if they won the election, they would not leave their low income people stranded like the Aldo did. Albo in his misguided wisdom proceeded to lift fuel excise by double, tobacco, alcohol, huge new car tax, everything the working man and woman see as a small luxury in life. Albo will offer the workers a pissweak too little too late tax cut on July 1, starting at about $15 a week, the price of a big mac meal, that will surely help Albo. So in summary, Albo has done absolutely nothing substantial to relieve the pressure off of the millions of Aussies straining under the pressure of high costs of living and couldn’t care less, he was obsessed about the voice referendum for 12 months, totally dropped the ball on immigration numbers, housing, health. Everyone in this situation please remember the pain at the next federal election.

    • Well Gregggy, clearly PM Ablo needs to do more of the same along the lines that you outlined seeing as he is in your words, “the greatest prime minister ever”.

    • And funny you’re directing your comments to “Joachy”. As a Green, he probably agrees with you that the tax cut is “pissweak”. The Greens were talking about holding up the changes because they wanted the tax free threshold raised. Careful, you might turn into a woke, bleeding heart lefty.

As for that totally regurgitated furphy about the voice referendum – governments can – and should – walk and chew gum. Your capitalist mates LOVE migration. Besides it is only just adjusting to normal levels post COVID restrictions. In terms of housing and health, this government (together with the states) has done more to redress the rot in two years than the last lot did in a decade. Pity they have been left so much to catch up with and a pity the Greens held up the HAFF and associated programs for so many months.

  6. What a load of fanciful spin. “ The coalition introduced the rebate in 2018, extended it to 2022, I suspect their end date would have been extended again if they won the election”. Sure thing! The change of government election was May 21 2022, the rebate end date, EOFY, June 30 2022. Plenty of time if theLibs were so worried about what hard hearted Labor would do to the poor, to legislate to extend it rather than see it lapse some six weeks later. Large numbers owe the ATO? Tell us more – I didn’t think it was retrospective!

“ Albo has done absolutely nothing substantial to relieve the pressure off of the millions of Aussies straining under the pressure of high costs of living ”. The GOVERNMENT has made changes to jobseeker and the work rate test; Persians and the work bonus. There have been real increases to rent assistance, lower pharmacy costs and increased incentives to bulk billing (which has increased since)

The big ticket item has been the rejigging of the stage 3 tax cuts, that “ pissweak too little too late tax cut on July 1” that none the less had LNP in lathers of outrage (before they discovered they’d have to back it due to its popularity). Do you really think ScoMo would have reversed that outrage if he’d won again? Even you Greg?

The LNP temporarily halved the fuel excise then returned it, alcohol taxes are going up by indexation as they have for yonks. Tobacco that “small luxury in life” is in fact a very expensive one that people pay for with their lives – particularly youth who represent the only group currently taking up tobacco use. Other users are a vanishing breed.

A “huge new car tax”? Come on – you have fallen for it. You want us to remain in the salubrious company of Russia in not introducing fuel efficiency regulation. It’s been pared back anyway Greg because of the war against common sense that so sways certain sectors of our population.

    • Hi Lizardbreath, I tips me lid to you, you ‘ve done a heck of job there in debunking the Greggy’s desperate wild claims.
Facts, haven’t exactly been the Greggy’s strong suit.
Greggy keeps self highlighting his no-learning. Why does the Greggy keep doing it?

The whole issue of tax is the gift or poison, take your pick, that keeps on giving.
Taxes, are a necessary thing to provide us all with the services that we as individuals wouldn’t be able to fund by ourselves.
We should simply index the tax scales and end eternally playing the ‘tax cut’ game.

The Stage 3 taxidermy, wasn’t great from the word go with the top end earners standing to collect bigtime.
Economic circumstances aren’t a static thing, if they ( yuu huu LibNat ) thought it was such a great idea, why dribble out the thing over 6 years. And as happened, economic circumstances did change which saw the ‘temporary’ LMITO that began in 2018/19 at an amount of $540.00, increased along the way to its final amount of $1500.00 when it ended 30/6/22.

  7. Just thought I’d add this little snippet From todays Age/SMH – Mike Foley, Nick Toscano.

“ The rise of renewable energy in the grid is driving down emissions and power generated from wind and solar farms is starting to drive down the cost of electricity as well.

“ Renewable energy accounted for 39 per cent of the east-coast power grid during the first three months of this year, up nearly 2 per cent from the same time in 2023, figures from the Australian Energy Market Operator reveal.

“ While heatwaves and extreme weather have put extra strain on the network and power companies, the wholesale cost of electricity generation has fallen 8 per cent in the first quarter of 2024 …

“ Wholesale power prices – what retailers pay generators for electricity before selling it to customers – can typically account for up to one-third of retail power bills for households and businesses.”

    • Yes, I saw that SMH item as well..

      Jeff Dimery the topman at Alinta Energy at his recent presentation at The NPC, gave us the the rough breakdown of the makeup of our electricity bills;
Distribution costs ( the poles and wires ) – 45%
      Wholesale costs ( the generators ) – 35%
      Retailer costs – 10%
      Green scheme costs – 10%

We should see lower retail electricity tariffs ,as a result of the lower wholesale costs, when the new retail electricity tariff rates are released.
