Detectives are appealing for information and witnesses after a man was seriously assaulted at Byron Bay earlier this year.
A police statement reads, ‘About 3.30am on Saturday, 21 June 2025, emergency services were called to a car park near the intersection of Johnson Street and Lawson Street, Byron Bay, following reports of a man had been assaulted by a group of up to six males’.
‘Officers attached to Tweed/Byron Police District arrived at the location and found a 25-year-old man suffering head injuries.
‘He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene before being taken to hospital with significant facial and head injuries.
‘Detectives attached to Tweed/Byron Police District established a crime scene and commenced inquiries into the incident.
‘The man has since been released from hospital; however, lives with ongoing effects of the assault.
Tweed/Byron Police District Crime Manager, Detective Inspector Matt Zimmer, said police are determined to find those responsible.
‘This was a violent attack that has left a young man with life-altering injuries,” Det Insp Zimmer said.
‘He is still recovering from significant fractures and continues to have blurry vision meaning he has not yet been able to return to work.
‘There are people out there who know who was involved. We urge those people to do the right thing and come forward.”
