Mullum Organic Food Co-op are hosting a grand opening event to celebrate their new space, which they say will give ‘greater food and flood sustainable infrastructure’.

In a media release the co-op’s Oriel Paterson says, ‘Come along on Friday 24 April, from 4 till 6pm for live music, stories, food and drinks at our gorgeous spot in the Community Garden (156 Stuart St, Mullumbimby)’.

‘This achievement has involved local businesses, tradespeople and the working hands of co-op members, who together have fulfilled a long-term dream. This is an opportunity to thank them all and invite the wider community to meet.

‘The Food Co-op offers a wide range of organic, bulk food at affordable prices, being volunteer run and member led. It’s a community-experience, where all shoppers are members, recycled packaging comes from home and joining-in gives you further discounts. Thursdays (11-2) are assisted shopping days for those in need – small children, pregnant, limited physicality – where we do your shopping for you. Get more for your money by joining this not-for-profit co-operative, rather than giving your dollars to a big multinational corporation. The Food Co-op’s dreamy new space makes food shopping a pleasure, plus there’s heaps of parking! Come and see for yourself.

Mullum Organic Food Co-op

‘Originally opened in 2014 at Kulchajam Byron Bay, our home in the Mullumbimby Community Garden began in 2017 in a tiny tin shed with a single light bulb. The vision of greater food storage security inspired memorable degustation events, paired with community and government grant wins to fundraise.

‘The recent completion of a larger shed refit and cooled shipping container, adds the final pieces to their impressive off-grid solar system and earlier insulated container developments along the way.

‘This achievement has been part of the federal government’s Growing Regions Program, funding community infrastructure projects in regional and rural areas.

‘This grant, secured by Seed Northern Rivers, relies on matching funds for projects such as the Mullumbimby Men’s Shed, an Environment Centre, a Community Nursery, and accessibility infrastructure at the Gardens Eco hub. If you can help to support these projects, please contact Seed Northern Rivers’.
