After a recent successful local food event in Mullumbimby, organisers say they are planning a second event in Byron Bay on Saturday 25 April.
Local Future’s Helena Norberg-Hodge said, ‘So many wonderful ideas have been shared by our enthusiastic community at our Food Forever events. We’re now ready to go full steam ahead with setting concrete plans at our next event on 25 April’.
‘There’s a role for all of us, especially those of us – the 99% – who aren’t growers, in this collective effort to build our local food system.
‘I do hope you can join us at our next event on Saturday 25 April at Marvell Hall, Byron Bay.
‘There are also plans to hold another event in Murwillumbah in May.
‘Firstly, we will screen an interview I recorded with my friend and colleague of many years, Michael Shuman, a US lawyer, economist and local finance expert.
‘Michael shares examples of local food initiatives that are working in similar communities around the world.
‘Note: This will be an edited version of the interview we screened at Mullum last month, plus some additional material.
‘Followed by: solutions focussed community discussions on the following topics:
• increasing farmers’ access to customers (e.g. an additional farmers’ market)
• increasing farmers’ access to land (including housing options)
• exploring public investment opportunities (e.g. a food hub)
‘With the information gathered from our previous event, we’re ready to get down to solid planning!’
