Support for New Mums founder, Deborah Hunt, is the 2026 Tweed Local Woman of the Year, Member for Tweed Geoff Provest (Nationals) said today.
In a media release, he said, “Deborah, from Nunderi, established Support for New Mums in 2018 to provide free, home-based support for new mothers and their babies through a network of trained and caring volunteers”.
“Deb is an inspirational Tweed resident who is making a wonderful difference in the lives of Tweed families,” Mr Provest said.
“Deb has a background in teaching and education, holds a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and has channelled her experience and knowledge into creating and nurturing an important community organisation, helping mums during the early stages of motherhood”.
“What started as six volunteers supporting new mothers in Murwillumbah has grown to more than 100 volunteers providing a regional service extending from the Southern Gold Coast, throughout the Tweed and Byron Shires and down to Ballina.
“Support for New Mums is available to all new mums, from the third trimester, through the first year of their baby’s life and beyond if needed. Support for New Mums receives referrals from health professionals including GPs, midwives and child and family health nurses, community organisations, as well as mums themselves.
“Deb and her volunteers, trained in providing individual support to mothers, are dedicated to promoting the wellbeing of mums and their babies by creating a village of support where every mother feels valued and heard.”
“Support for New Mums fosters meaningful connections, reduces isolation and empowers mums to thrive.
“Congratulations Deb and thank you for your dedicated and inspiring commitment to your community.”
