David Lowe, as always, tells it how it is. Clearly the Pacific Forum overlooked any number of things. Upsetting. The emphasis on military scenarios becomes quite disturbing – at the behest of the US, the guardians of the free world. Really?

An Australian prime minister 50-plus years ago was ousted in a coup d’état engineered by the CIA because he wanted Australia to become a fully sovereign nation. Not much has changed.

China is not a threat and never has been. They practise something called multipolarity which many countries are embracing. Hegemony has had its day. Empires fall. So too will the American empire. The country is slowly but surely falling apart from within just as happened in ancient Rome two thousand years ago. We do not seem to learn anything.

If humanity is to survive in the longer term we have to think accordingly.

The economy has to become sustainable, our aspirations lessened to suit. Not hard I would have thought.

It is all about stories; we have done this for a very long time.

The stories must alter for the benefit of all.
