UPDATE: A 57-year-old man who died in a crash at Stokers Siding this morning was from Uki, police say.
Smiths Creek Road has been re-open to traffic since around 10am after it was cordoned off as a crime scene for more than four hours.
Police don’t believe the crash happened in suspicious circumstances or that any other drivers were involved.
The man was reportedly driving a white ute before he crashed into a tree and died quickly owing to his subsequent injuries.
Police say he had died by the time paramedics arrived.
Investigations are continuing and police would like to speak to anyone who was in one of several cars reported to have been parked near the crash site when emergency services arrived.
They say the drivers took off before authorities had a chance to speak to them.
EARLIER: A man believed to be in his fifties has died in a crash at Stokers Siding early this morning, police say.
Police issued a statement in response to queries saying emergency services were called to Smiths Creek Road in Stokers Siding around 5.40am after a car left the road and crashed into a tree.
The driver is reported to have died at the scene and is yet to be formally identified but police said they believe he was a 57-year-old man.
Police said they’d prepare a report for the coroner but have set up a crime scene at the crash site.
Smiths Creek Road was still closed in the crash vicinity as of 9.30am.
Police are asking anyone with information or dashcam footage to call police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
