Byron Shire residents have until end of day this Wednesday to apply for their home to feature as part of Sustainable House Day in mid-May.

Residents who have completed or are progressing climate‑resilient builds, passive solar designs, retrofits with low‑impact materials, or any other sustainability‑focused improvements, were invited to consider opening their homes as part of the event.

Mayor Sarah Ndiaye said in a media release the occasion was a unique opportunity for the Byron Shire community to learn from one another.

‘When people open their homes to visitors, we all get a peek into what is possible, to understand the steps involved, and to hear directly from others about the tangible benefits of choosing sustainability,’ Councillor Ndiaye said.

‘Sustainable House Day shines a light on the many ways people are upgrading to all‑electric homes, completing smart and thoughtful retrofits, or finding innovative paths to reduce their environmental impact.’

Applications were open online until 11 March, with applicants required to upload photos and provide a short description of their home.

More information was to be available by contacting the Byron Shire Council Sustainability Team via email at [email protected].
