Bed taxes and parking fees alone will not meet the needs of a council hamstrung by shortfalls on government funding for infrastructure. Residents and local businesses alike are being compromised in their daily activities, even though they dutifully, in most cases, pay their rates and levies to council. The shortfall of affordable residential accommodation needs to be addressed.
We do need tourism for our shire to thrive, but we need to make sure that it benefits the community. I am sure that many rural and semi-rural landholders would appreciate the chance to house more people or provide tourist accommodation and help them stay on the farm.
