Last Thursday, ABC Radio National breakfast host Fran Kelly raised the coal-seam gas (CSG) issue with Greens’ leader Senator Christine Milne, whose response is worth repeating: (abc.net.au/radionational/programs/breakfast/2013.02.07/4505406).
‘The Labor Party should stop all the posturing and take action under the Corporations Act to immediately stop CSG mining, which has serious risks to both people’s health and the environment.’ Justine Elliot, please take note: ‘chest-beating’ in parliament is theatrical posturing and the sudden resignation of your quasi-ministerial job in an election year looks very self-serving.
If you’re ‘fair dinkum’ prove it – get the PM and federal environment minister Tony Burke to take the action suggested by Senator Milne and get on to the front picket lines; otherwise you may be seen by many Richmond voters as a phony, just trying to use the CSG issue to get re-elected. Don’t be a hypocrite. Don’t throw political mud. Take action – do something important for Australia.
