Byron Bay Men

Rain has interrupted games this week with Thursday the only day for bowls.

One game of the Club Fours championship (semifinal) was played with the team of Syl Reid, Greg Daniels, Phil Boyd and Dennis McCreadie having a 17–11 win over Reg Condie, Werner Borkhardt, Ivan Easten and Paul Bezrouchko.

Self Selected Pairs winners this week were Ray Henderson and Bob Lewis with Jim Clark and Brian Burton runners up. The meat tray was won by Gavin McPhail with the jackpot now at $470.

*** Next Sunday March 10 the Winter Whales will hold a Charity Day with a visit from Southport Workers Club. Games start at 1pm and a barbecue / sausage sizzle before the game at 12noon.

Byron Bay Women

No bowls last Tuesday due to the weather.

*** We have decided to start bowls a little earlier due to the heat at this time of year. So that we can be out on the green at 9.15am for bowls we are asking that names be in by 8.45am (and money by 9am) for those wishing to have a game. Be at the club by then or ring your name through on 6685 6202.

Visitors are Welcome! Any Tuesday morning.

Kingscliff Men

The rainy weather has continued to interrupt club events. The Open Pairs scheduled for March 2 will now be played on Saturday March 9.

Tweed Valley Shield: The A Division came up against a red hot Coolangatta last Monday and went down on both rinks. The overall score was Kingscliff 32, Coolangatta 57. Despite the loss, Kingscliff will remain in fourth position but will find it hard to make up the ground. B Division again had one win and one loss but this week missed out on the win. Overall scores Kingscliff 34, Coolangatta 42. The next round will be held at Kingscliff on Monday 11 March and Kingscliff will play Tweed Heads.

District News: The rain also caused disruption to the District Triples. The first round will now be played on Sunday March 10. In the Open Triples the Kingscliff teams skipped by Mike Richards and Ian Taylor will play each other. This game is at Cabarita and the winner will play again in the afternoon. There are five Kingscliff teams in the Seniors Triples and again Kingscliff teams will meet up in the first round. Ron Erikson’s team will play John Reardon’s team and Peter Murphy will skip his team against Brian Turner’s team. John Felton’s team will play the Cabarita team skipped by Jim Cook. These games will be held at Byron Bay.

Pennants News. With Pennant Season commencing on April 6, the club selectors are hoping the weather will hold off so that they can hold trials on Friday afternoons.

CYCLING

Byron

Byron Bay Cycle Club is holding SIS Criterium racing next Sunday 10 March in the Byron industrial estate off Bayshore Drive fromEwingsdale Rd. Registration will be near Spirit Health Club carpark, Byron Bay, in Centennial Circuit, at 6.30am for a 7am start.

Race entry payment at sign on desk $10. Cycling Australia Race Licences are to be presented and no day licences available. Please note that signing up or renewal can be done online at the Cycling Australia website for licences for cycling competitions and events that include a comprehensive package of insurance cover.

Next following race dates Byron Bay Cycle Club is holding 14/4.

We welcome any new or old to the sport either as Racing or Ride membership to join our club. BBCC’s aim is to promote a safe racingenvironment through training to improve the novice and social riders to an improved competitive level. We are aiming to have our new 1km Criterium track located at the new Byron Region Sports & Cultural Centre for next season. The more club members the more support is generated for this project.

Training is on Tuesday and Thursday at 6am leaving from the Clock Tower in Byron St, near the corner of Jonson St, with moderate rides leaving at 6.30am on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. There’s also a longer club coffee ride that leaves at 6.30am Saturday at a more social pace.
