Miriam’s Kora
Sydney-based singer/songwriter Miriam Lieberman presents a captivating performance on blues-infused melodies and soaring vocal harmonies told through the strings of African kora.
The stories speak of Lieberman’s musical journey, which has taken her from Mali, where she studied the kora – a West African harp with a beautiful evocative tone – to central India and South America. These places have left an indelible imprint on Lieberman. Catch this renaissance woman at the Byron Community Centre on Saturday. Tickets at the venue.

Three Cornered Square
Imagine wandering into a New York warehouse in the present day. You have The Doors in one corner, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd in another. Andy Warhol is taking photographs… In the front and centre is psychedelic band twisted with a dramatic costumed female lead singer playing the theremin… If Jim Morrison and Velvet Underground gave birth to a band, their love child would be Three Cornered Square! Hailing from Bangalow and signed to boutique record label Dragging Canoe Records, the band have just finished recording their debut EP with producer Paul Pilsneniks (The Tea Party, Angus Stone, Alanis Morrisette, Boy & Bear, Pete Murray, The Medics). Characterised by theme, drawn from the 60s post-rock movement of psychedelia sound and poised with poetic lyrics, their debut EP is a conceptual collection that is untamed and sound defining. Flirting with the 1960s underground music scene, but pioneering a sound all their own, these are a band worth catching when they play the Bangalow Bowls Club on Saturday from 7.30pm.
