This photo from TOOT should give great heart to the Byron community.
The train corridor debate does not have to be ‘either/or’ but rather all inclusive. A train and an adjacent track. The former designed to service the whole community, juxtaposed to a Disney-type train aiding corporate private interests.
For those citizens working to live within the new paradigm of supporting the biosphere and reducing CO2 emissions by usage of thousands more cars this is great news.
Great news for tourists too, particularly those from more climate aware progressive countries.
By the way folks it’s worth writing to any federal member of parliament asking for money to restore the tracks.
While corridors are owned by the NSW government, the feds do have the money for schools, hospitals and imperative infrastructure.
Given that we lost our trains during the Carr/Costa pre-ICAC period, and this generated many millions of dollars, we are in the perfect position to demand funding, or better still compensation.
Support TOOT, a truly grass roots organisation with an ecological sustainable vision.
From research, I concluded that Mehreen Faruqi, a NSW MLC (Greens), is the most highly qualified transport specialist/representative.
Communities can still be proactive in creating their vision despite the love affairs of pollies and the big end of town.
Claiming our ecologically sustainable paradigm eliminates the discourses of endless ‘pollyspeak’ that are all about winning hearts and minds while manufacturing ‘consent’. For the Earth. Onwards.
